COLGATE COMES BACK TO DOWN CSUN

November 24, 2019

Rapolas Ivanauskas drained the go-ahead 3-pointer late in regulation and Colgate closed the final two minutes on a 9-0 run to seal a 64-56 victory over CSUN in the Subregional Round of the Roman Legends Classic presented by Old Trapper at Green Bay.

Colgate trailed 56-55 with less than three minutes remaining when Ivanauskas (pictured) immediately out of the media timeout splashed a go-ahead triple from the left wing.

After a big stop on defense and an offensive rebound from Ivanauskas, Nelly Cummings netted another trey to stretch the lead to 61-56. Ivanauskas closed out the game by sinking three of four from the free throw line and the late run secured the 64-56 triumph.

Shots were hard to come by in the first half, as both teams combined to start 1-for-21 from the field. Colgate and CSUN both used scoring runs and strong defense, and the Matadors held a 22-20 advantage at the break.

The Raiders connected on nine treys in the second half to sustain a hot-shooting CSUN team that finished over 55 percent from the field. There were 11 lead changes over the final 20 minutes before Colgate closed it out down the stretch for its first road win of the season.

Ivanauskas led the Raiders with 16 points and 13 rebounds while Tucker Richardson tallied 15 points. The Matadors were led by Terrell Gomez’s 12 points.

The Green Bay Subregional continues Monday with the host Phoenix playing CSUN. Colgate and Green Bay will play each other on Tuesday.
