Western Carolina Earns Gotham Classic Win

Western Carolina scored a season-high 97 points en route to a 97-80 win at home against Eastern Washington in Day 5 of the Gotham Classic.

Four Catamounts scored in double figures, led by Rhett Harrelson and his 25 points. Justin Browning posted 18 points and eight rebounds, Torrion Brummitt had 18 points and seven rebounds, and Mike Brown netted 17 points.

Eastern Washington was paced by the 29-point effort of Austin McBroom. Felix Von Hofe tallied 27 points and Venky Jois had 12 points and eight rebounds.

Both teams shot extremely well. Western Carolina was 32-of-57 from the field, including 9-of-20 from three. Eastern Washington was 26-of-49 from the floor, going 13-of-27 from three. The 13 three-pointers tie a Gotham Classic record set by Davidson against Eastern Washington on Dec. 9. The Catamounts outscored the Eagles, 24-15, at the foul line.

The Showcase Game of the Gotham Classic takes place on Sunday at Madison Square Garden when Pittsburgh takes on Davidson in a noon tip. Tickets can be purchased at http://bit.ly/1OlTywJ.

Eastern Washington closes out its Gotham Classic schedule on Thursday in a home contest with Morehead State. Western Carolina is back in action Sunday when it plays at Morehead State.
