Pitt Takes Gotham by Storm

Michael Young scored 22 points and hauled down six rebounds as Pittsburgh used a 33-12 run to erase a seven-point first half deficit and beat Davidson 94-69 in the Gotham Classic Showcase Game at Madison Square Garden.

Davidson started the game strong, taking a 24-17 lead halfway through the stanza. However, Pitt stormed back, outscoring the Wildcats 33-12 the rest of the half to take a 50-38 halftime lead. James Robinson had nine points in that final burst while Young netted eight. Young was named the game’s Most Outstanding Player.

The second half was much the same as the Panthers (9-1) outscored Davidson (7-2), 44-31.

Robinson ended the game with 15 points, seven rebounds, and six assists. Sterling Smith had 12 points, Chris Jones also added 12, and Sheldon Jeter posted eight points and eight rebounds.

Davidson was paced by Jack Gibbs and his 21 points. Peyton Aldridge had 19 points and six rebounds and Brian Sullivan recorded eight points and eight assists.

In Morehead, Ky., Anthony Elechi’s lay-up with 1:23 to play broke a 52-52 tie and sent Morehead State to a 60-52 win over Western Carolina.

DeJuan Marrero led Morehead State with 16 points and eight rebounds. Elechi ended the game with six points. Justin Browning had 15 points and nine boards for Western Carolina.

The fourth annual Gotham Classic concludes on Wednesday when Davidson hosts Morehead State and Western Carolina plays at Pittsburgh.
