BC and SLU Take Gotham Classic Decisions

Boston College and Saint Louis both held off their visitors in registering wins in the Gotham Classic.

In Chestnut Hill, Jay Heath posted 17 points and eight rebounds and Boston College held off Eastern Washington in earning a 72-68 decision in the Gotham Classic.

Boston College outscored Eastern Washington 19-3 from the foul line as EWU attempted 38 3-pointers. Half of EWU’s 26 made field goals were 3-pointers.

Derryck Thornton (pictured) scored 14 points, Nik Popovic had 13 points and 12 rebounds, and Jared Hamilton scored 12 points for Boston College.

Jacob Davison of EWU led all scorers with 26 points. Kim Aiken Jr. had 17 points and 13 rebounds.

In St. Louis, Gibson Jimerson ended a 17-0 High Point run with a 3-pointer with 4:55 remaining to stop the bleeding and lead Saint Louis to a 67-55 win over High Point.

The Panthers trailed 55-31 after a Terrence Hargrave Jr. dunk with 8:52 to go, the Panthers went on their run, outscoring SLU 17-0 over the next 5:08, led by Curtis Holland III’s seven points during that stretch. The Billikens then outscored High Point 12-7 the rest of the way.

Jordan Goodwin joined Jimerson in double digits with 19 points along with eight rebounds.

Holland ended the game with 19 points, as did teammate John-Michael Wright.

The Gotham Classic resumes Saturday with Saint Louis hosting Belmont and High Point home to Eastern Washington.
