DUKE AND TEXAS EMERGE VICTORIOUS

Duke and Texas held home court with wins in their opening games of the 2019 2K Empire Classic benefiting Wounded Warrior Project.

In Durham, Matthew Hurt (pictured) scored 19 points and Vernon Carey Jr. had 17 points and 10 rebounds to lead No. 2 Duke to a 105-54 win over Central Arkansas in the 2K Empire Classic benefiting Wounded Warrior Project.

Duke shot 57 percent from the field, including 9-of-18 from three to improve to 2-0 on the season. Joining Hunt and Carey in double figures were Cassius Stanley with 13 points, Javin DeLaurier with 11 points and eight rebounds, and Alex O’Connell and Wendell Moore Jr. with 10 points apiece.

The Bears were led by Rylan Bergersen with 13 points and Eddy Kaylouloud with nine points and six rebounds.

Duke next hosts Georgia State on Friday while Central Arkansas prepares for the Subregional Rounds on Nov. 22-23.

In Austin, Courtney Ramey tallied 19 points and had six rebounds as Texas held off California Baptist, 67-54.

Jericho Sims had 11 points and 11 rebounds and Andrew Jones also added 11 points.

Milan Acquaah led CBU with 17 points and seven rebounds. Ferron Flavors Jr. had 14 points.

Texas will host Prairie View on Friday while CBU is next in action on Friday at California.
