Pittsburgh and Marquette earn 2K Classic victories

The 2K Classic benefiting Wounded Warrior Project saw the home teams win again on Monday.

In Pittsburgh, Pitt shot 54 percent from the field in taking a 99-80 decision from Gardner-Webb. Cameron Johnson and Michael Young each scored 18 points for the Panthers, who ended the Regional Round of the 2K Classic with a 2-0 mark. Sheldon Jeter had 14 points and a game-high 13 rebounds and Jamel Artis added 11 points and six assists. Speaking of assists, Pitt had 29 assists on 35 field goals.

Gardner-Webb was paced by Laquincy Rideau and his game-high 23 points. He also had six assists. David Efianayi had 20 points and Liam O’Reilly tallied 14 points.

wojo-2kIn Milwaukee, five Golden Eagles scored in double figures as Marquette downed Howard, 81-49. Katin Reinhardt and Jajuan Johnson led Marquette with 14 points apiece. Haanif Cheatham and Markus Howard scored 12 each with Cheatham adding seven rebounds and six assists, and Sam Hauser totaled 10 points.

Howard received 15 points from Solomon Mangham.

The 2K Classic benefiting Wounded Warrior Project heads to New York City on Thursday when Pittsburgh takes on SMU (7pm) and Michigan faces Marquette (9:30pm) in semifinal round action.
