Cal jumped out to a 48-31 halftime lead over the Pirates. However, like its previous game at VCU, Hampton fought back to cut the lead to single digits before Austin hit a pair of free throws with 6:38 remaining to make it a 66-55 lead that never again got below 10 points.

The Pirates were again led by Jermaine Morrow, who scored a game-best 26 points. Kalin Fisher and Akim Mitchell scored 12 points each.
