Rider Earns Gotham Classic Road Win

STOCKTON, Calif. Kahlil Thomas kahlil-thomas-2016-3posted 17 points and 14 rebounds and Rider held off a late Pacific rally to capture a 73-66 win in the fifth annual Gotham Classic.

The road win for the Broncs marked just the seventh time in 36 tournament games that the road team earned a win. The victory improved Rider’s record to 5-3 on the season.

Thomas was joined in double figures by Jimmie Taylor, who netted 14 points, and Stevie Jordan, who had 12 points and six assists.

Pacific (3-6) was led by Ray Bowles and his 21 points and six rebounds. T.J. Wallace had 12 points and six assists, David Taylor scored 11 points, and Anthony Townes recorded 11 points and 12 rebounds.

Defensively, the Broncs limited Pacific to just 22-of-70 shooting from the field.

The Gotham Classic resumes on Tuesday when UMass hosts North Carolina A&T. Rider is next in action when it hosts Kennesaw State on Wednesday. Pacific next plays on Thursday at home to North Carolina A&T.
