Odiase’s 23 points leads UIC to upset of George Washington

CHICAGO, Ill. – Tai Odiase scored 23 points and pulled down seven rebounds as UIC downed George Washington, 80-71, in the Quarterfinals of the CBI presented by Five Four.

UIC led 62-45 with 8:14 to play before George Washington went on a 20-5 run, capped by a pair of Tyler Cavanaugh free throws to cut the lead to 67-65 with 1:48 to play. However, that is the closest the Colonials would come to the Flames.

Dominique Matthews netted 15 points for UIC, which also received 11 points and six rebounds from K.J. Santos, 11 points and eight assists from Godwin Boahen, 10 points from Marcus Ottey, and six points, 10 rebounds, and 12 assists from Tarkus Ferguson.

GW was paced by Cavanaugh, who had 24 points and nine rebounds before fouling out. Yuta Watanabe added 21 points.
