CONWAY, S.C. – Coastal Carolina overcame a 16-point deficit to rally and defeat Loyola Maryland, 72-63, in the Quarterfinal Round of the CBI presented by Five Four.

Just 7:58 into the game, Loyola’s Andre Walker connected on a 3-pointer to give the Greyhounds an 18-2 lead. However, Coastal got its footing and narrowed the gap to two, 31-29, at the half.

In the second half, Coastal took the lead for good when Jaylen Shaw’s free throw at 3:45 gave the Chanticleers a 60-59 lead. Shaw then nailed a jump shot 27 seconds later to make it 62-59. That was followed by a Demario Beck dunk 13 seconds later that gave Coastal a 64-59 lead.

Shaw led all scorers with 22 points to go with seven rebounds. Elijah Wilson tallied 16 points and seven rebounds, Artur Labinowicz had 15 points, and Bush closed the game with 15 points and eight rebounds.

Loyola was led by Chuck Champion and his 18 points. Walker ended with 12 points, Chancellor Bernard had 10 points, and Jarred Jones and Cam Gregory had eight points and nine rebounds apiece.

The 16-point deficit was the second-largest ever overcome in a CBI game. ULM came from 20 down to beat Mercer in the 2015 quarters en route to the CBI Finals.
