Jardine's Career-Best Performance Leads #10/11 Orange
Scoop Jardine scored a career high 27 points to lead the Orange past Detroit, 66-55 in game one of the Legends Classic on Tuesday.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Junior Scoop Jardine netted a career-high 27 points to lead No. 10/11 Syracuse (3-0) past Detroit (0-2), 66-55. The Orange welcomed the Titans to the Carrier Dome for the first game of the Legends Classic on Tuesday.

Jardine was 11-of-18 from the floor and added eight assists and a career-high tying five steals. Senior Rick Jackson earned his second consecutive double-double with 10 points and a career-high 22 rebounds, which is also a Legends Classic rebounding record. Rookie Baye Moussa Keita had seven points, four rebounds and three blocks off the bench for the Orange.

The first half featured three lead changes and the game was tied on three different occasions as Syracuse and Detroit traded baskets for much of the first 20 minutes. Despite converting 11 Titan turnovers into 10 points, SU trailed 28-25 at the half.

Jardine netted five unanswered points to start the second half to give SU its first lead since the 12:29 mark of the first half. He scored 12 of the Orange’s first 15 points of the second stanza.

The Titans clawed back to cut SU’s lead to two (44-42), with just over 10 minutes to play. A three-point play by Jardine and a three-pointer from sophomore James Southerland increased the Orange lead to eight and gave Syracuse the momentum. Sophomore Brandon Triche followed with another three-point play to regain a double-digit lead, 53-42.

Freshman Fab Melo threw down SU’s first dunk of the night on an assist from Jardine to put the Orange up, 57-44, with seven minutes remaining. Fellow rookie C.J. Fair tallied Syracuse’s last four points of the night to secure the Orange’s third consecutive win.

Detroit, led by head coach Ray McCallum, had three players in double-figures. Eli Holman posted a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds.

Syracuse will welcome William & Mary to the Carrier Dome for game two of the Legends Classic on Sunday, November 21 at 2 p.m. Syracuse fans can catch the Orange against the Tribe on the BIG EAST Network.
