Freshman Kenny Boynton scored a game-high 22 points and junior Chandler Parsons recorded his third career double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds as Florida overcame a slow start to beat Georgia Southern 69-49 to open the 2009 Legends Classic.
Senior guard Louis Dale tied his career high with 24 points and added four assists and four steals, while classmate Geoff Reeves chipped in 16 points to lead Cornell to a 74-61 win at Massachusetts in the Legends Classic opener for both teams. Senior Jeff Foote had 10 points and nine rebounds, with Adam Wire posting an impressive seven points, seven rebounds and two assists in 24 minutes without a turnover.
The Legends Classic continues on Friday with Florida hosting Troy on Fox Sports Florida, Rutgers opening Legends play with Drexel, and No. 2 Michigan State beginning play with a home match against Toledo on the Big Ten Network.
#2 Michigan State, Rutgers, Florida, and UMass will participate in the Championship Rounds of the Legends Classic on Friday, Nov. 27 and Saturday, Nov. 28 at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J. Semifinal round action commences on Nov. 27 when Rutgers meets UMass at 5:30pm (ET) followed by Michigan State and Florida. On Nov. 28, the consolation game will begin at 5:30pm (ET) followed by the title match. All four Championship Rounds games will be aired on HDNet.
