box score

MACON, Ga. - Nate Wolters missed his first shot on Tuesday against Sam Houston State, but buried a three-pointer from the left wing on his second attempt, which gave him exactly 1,000 career points and made him the 42nd member of the SDSU 1,000-Point Club.

Wolters went on to score 15 more points for a total of 18 in a 77-60 win over Sam Houston State in the second of three games in as many days at the Progressive CBE Classic in Macon, Ga.

Griffan Callahan led the Jackrabbits with a career-high 21 points, which included a career-high six three-pointers. Callahan and Wolters also tied for team-high honors with six rebounds.

Konner Tucker led the Bearkats with 14 points, with Darius Gatson and Michael Holyfield both finishing with 12 points in a losing effort.

SHSU made its first four shots of the game and took an early 9-2 lead, but the Jackrabbits answered with a 10-2 run, capped by a pair of Taévaunn Prince free throws to take a lead that they would never give up..

SDSU pushed its lead to 33-26 at halftime, despite shooting just 32 percent (10-of-31), compared to 48 percent (11-of-23) by the Bearkats. The difference came from the free throw line, where the Jacks converted nine of their 12 attempts, while the Bearkats went just 1-for-2 from the stripe.

The Jacks used an 18-2 run in the second half to quickly increase the lead to 54-32 with 12 minutes to play, but SHSU would not go down without a fight, and cut the lead to 10 points at 60-50 with just under five minutes to play. Callahan came back with his fifth trey of the night to give the Jacks a 13-point cushion, and they never looked back.

After struggling in the first half, the Jacks bounced back to shoot 60 percent in the second half (12-of-20), and held the Bearkats to 34 percent (12-of-35).

The Jackrabbits wrap up the CBE Classic on Wednesday, when they take on the host Mercer Bears at 7 p.m. ET.
