GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Calvin Wooten scored 15 of his 22 points in the second half as Oakland rallied to beat St. Peter's 72-69 Thursday night in the consolation game of the Gainesville Regional in the 2K Sports College Hoops Classic.
Oakland rebounds after opening round loss to Albany
Oakland (1-1) built its lead to 68-60 and held on despite missing four free throws in the final minute. St. Peter's (0-2) had a chance to tie, but Kaimondre Owes missed a 3-pointer just before the buzzer.
St. Peter's guard Keydren Clark, the two-time defending NCAA scoring champion, could not find the range for the second consecutive night. After missing a week of preseason practice with tendinitis in his tibia, he went 4-for-17 against Florida on Wednesday and 4-for-22 vs. Oakland, finishing with 16 points.
Hopes scored 19 and forward David Nelson contributed 16 for Oakland.
Raul Orta of St. Peter's led all scorers with 27, hitting 11 of 17 shots. Teammate Todd Sowell added 17 points. |
