CBI presented by Zebra Pen Quarterfinals Set for Monday
PRINCETON, N.J. – Boise State, Creighton, Oregon, and UCF will host quarterfinal round games on Monday in the College Basketball Invitational presented by Zebra Pen.
HDNet will televise a pair of the quarterfinal games, beginning at 8:00pm ET when Creighton (20-11) hosts Davidson (28-14). Creighton advanced to the quarters with an 85-74 win over San Jose State on Tuesday. The win was the Bluejays' 20th of the season, giving them 12 20-win seasons in the last 13 years. Davidson earned an 85-65 win over James Madison on Tuesday.
The second game of the HDNet quarterfinal doubleheader tips at 10:00pm ET and features Duquesne (19-12) traveling to Oregon (17-17). The Dukes earned an 87-74 win at Montana on Wednesday, becoming the only CBI road team to win an opening round game this year. The Ducks captured a 68-59 win over Weber State on Wednesday to advance to the quarters.
In a 7:00pm ET tip-off, UCF (20-11) will entertain Rhode Island (20-13). UCF won a 69-54 decision against St. Bonaventure, marking the school's first-ever postseason win at the Division I level. Rhode Island's 76-59 win over Miami (Ohio) was a school-record 90th for the current senior class.
Boise State (21-12) will host Evansville (17-15) in the fourth quarterfinal round game on Monday. Set for a 9:00pm ET start, Boise State got a La'Shard Anderson lay-up with 0.1 seconds left to emerge with an 83-80 win over Austin Peay in its opener on Tuesday. (Austin Peay was assessed a technical foul for calling timeout when it had none, thus the three-point margin). Evansville captured a 77-70 win over Hofstra on Tuesday to reach the CBI quarters.
After the quarterfinals, teams will be re-bracketed for the semifinals, which will take place on Wednesday, March 23. The best-of-three championship series will be played on March 28, March, 30, and April 1 (if necessary).
