EAST LANSING, Mich. – Freshman Raphelle Turner scored 10 points and added assists to help the ULM men’s basketball team survive a poor shooting first half to defeat Northern Michigan, 60-53 in the opening round of the O’Reilly Auto Parts CBE Classic in East Lansing, Mich. on Tuesday afternoon.

“I felt like we played terrible,” ULM head coach Orlando Early said. “It wasn’t just us. I thought Northern Michigan did a great job. They got us out of our rhythm with what they did defensively. We just didn’t play that well. I liked how our guys gutted it out and found a way to get a win.”

ULM (1-1, 0-0 Sun Belt) connected on only 29.6 percent of its first half shots, but only trailed by three at 23-20 entering half time. A strong team from behind the 3-point arc, the Warhawks went 0-for-11 in the first half.

Turner finished the game with 10 points off 3-of-4 shooting from the field and 4-of-6 shooting from the line. In only 12 minutes of play, all in the second half, Turner collected eight rebounds.
