EAST LANSING, Mich. — Quin Humphrey scored 25 points to lead Youngstown State to a 74-50 win over Central Michigan on Wednesday in the first round of the 2K College Hoops Classic.
The Penguins had a 44-18 advantage late in the first half.
Humphrey had 19 points before the break as Youngstown State (1-0) shot 52 percent in the first 20 minutes and held the Chippewas (0-1) to 20 percent from the floor
John Barber added 13 points for the Penguins, who protected their lead by hitting 26 free throws.
Sefton Barrett came off the bench to lead Central Michigan with 12 points and eight rebounds. None of Barrett's teammates had more than eight points in Ernie Zeigler's first game as head coach of the Chippewas.
Michigan State beat Brown 45-34 in the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader and will play Youngstown State on Thursday in the regional championship of the 16-team event. Central Michigan will play Brown in the consolation game Thursday.
