Classic Classics on ESPN Classic

Princeton, NJ (November 12, 2002) – Tomorrow, November 13th, ESPN Classic will feature three of the best games in the history of the AT&T Wireless Coaches vs. Cancer Classic.

At 1 PM EST, college basketball fans will be able to relive the excitement of the 1999 Event during a replay of the Iowa/UConn game in which Steve Alford, in his first game as the head coach of the Hawkeyes, led his team to a victory over the defending national champion and No. 1 ranked Huskies.

Following that game, ESPN Classic will replay two games from the 2001 Event, which served as a launching pad for a young Arizona team and the beginning of a national championship season for the Maryland Terrapins. At 3PM EST, fans can watch Arizona upset Maryland, then at 5 PM, watch Arizona capture the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic championship against Florida.

Match-ups for this year's event are as follows:

Thursday, November 14th - 7 p.m. EST Friday, November 15th - 6:30 p.m. EST
Syracuse vs. Memphis Villanova vs. Marquette
Oklahoma vs. Alabama Texas vs. Georgia

All four games will be televised nationally on ESPN2.

Last year, the Arizona Wildcats, then unranked, upset then No. 5 Florida on the first night and then eventual National Champion Maryland in the championship game of the tournament. Other past champions include Kansas (2000), Stanford (1999) and Temple (1998).

The Coaches vs. Cancer ® program, created by the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches exists to leverage the strength, community leadership and celebrity of our country's basketball coaches to raise awareness and in turn, reduce cancer risk through education programs while raising funds for the American Cancer Society.

Since 1995, Gazelle, producer of the AT&T Wireless Classic, has raised over $2 million for Coaches vs. Cancer ®. Tickets are now available through the Madison Square Garden Box Office, by calling TicketMaster at (212) 307-7171 or by logging on to the AT&T Wireless Classic page of Ticketmaster.com.
