Coaches vs. Cancer Challenge Event Preview

Princeton, NJ (November 21, 2001) – The Coaches vs. Cancer Challenge women’s college basketball tournament will take place on November 21st & 23rd and will feature Iowa State, DePaul, Maryland and Mississippi State. The event will take place at the Hilton Coliseum on the campus of Iowa State University.

Iowa State
Head Coach - Bill Fennelly (138-50, .734 winning percentage in six seasons)
• Ranked #7 by ESPN/USA TODAY
• Led by Angie Welle – USWBA & AP All-America, Big 12 Tournament MVP & Big 12 Conference Player of the Year
• Finished the 2000-01 season with a record of 27-6

DePaul
• Head Coach – Doug Bruno (262-174, .663 winning percentage in 16 seasons)
• Led by Lenae Williams – Conference USA second team, Conference USA all-tournament team, GTE Academic All-America team nominee
• Finished the 2000-01 season with a record of 18-14

Maryland
• Head Coach – Chris Weller (469-257, .652 winning percentage in 27 seasons)
• Ranked No. 27 by ESPN/USA Today
• Led by Deedee Warley – third-team All-ACC, second-team All-ACC tournament
• Finished the 2000-01 season with a record of 17-12

Mississippi State
• Head Coach – Sharon Fanning (419-304, .580 winning percentage in 26 seasons)
• Led by Latoya Thomas – two-time Kodak All-America, two-time All-SEC honoree,
SEC, ESPN, Sports Illustrated Freshman of the Year in 2000
• Finished the 2000-01 season with a record of 17-14
