Maryland (3-1)
overcame its 21 turnovers because DePaul (2-2) shot only 26 percent
(13-of-50). The Blue Demons missed their final 10 shots of the first
half, finishing 4-for-22 in the period, and went 10 minutes without
scoring in the second half.
Williams, who
scored 41 points in a loss to No. 6 Iowa State on Wednesday night,
was held to 14 on 6-of-20 shooting. She was 2-for-8 from three-point
range after making eight three-pointers against Iowa State.
Razor guarded
Williams most of the time and made it difficult for her to get shots
early. When Williams did get open, the shots did not fall.
Vicki Brick,
Deedee Warley and Terri Daniels each scored 10 points for Maryland.
Claudette Towers scored nine for DePaul.
Until Sarah
Kustok made a layup with 7:41 left, Williams and Towers were the
only DePaul players with a field goal. Towers' three-pointer with
5:30 left in the first half cut Maryland's lead to 20-16 but was
DePaul's last basket of the half.
Maryland led
26-16 at halftime and was leading 28-20 after Williams scored on
a putback with 17:40 remaining. DePaul did not score again until
Kustok's layup, and Maryland built a 38-20 lead.
