North Carolina Central Earns First D-I Win, 73-70

DURHAM, N.C. (AP) - Charles Futrell scored 18 points and Ashton Sauls had 17 as North Carolina downed Tennessee Tech 73-70, giving the Eagles their first victory as a Division I school.

Joshua Worthy scored 10 points for N.C. Central (1-5) in the final game of the inaugural Blue Ribbon Challenge.

Anthony Fisher got three tries from long range in the final 10 seconds but couldn't connect for the Golden Eagles (1-4).

Daniel Northern led Tennessee Tech with 18 points and 14 rebounds, while Amadi McKenzie scored 15 points.

Tennessee Tech trailed the entire game, except for 5-5 tie, but did pull within three points, 71-68, in the final minutes.

N.C. Central led 38-31 at halftime.
