Carter scores 11 for the Seahawks

LARAMIE, Wyo.
– T.J. Carter had 11 points Monday to lead North Carolina-Wilmington
to a 62-59 win over Wyoming in the Black Coaches Association Invitational
semifinals.
With 25 seconds
left in regulation, the Seahawks (2-0) would have taken a 52-49
lead, but they called time out right after a would-be 3-pointer
left the fingers of Todd Hendley.
The game went
into overtime tied 49-49.
North Carolina-Wilmington
took a 54-50 lead, but Wyoming (1-1) responded with a 3-pointer
by Brandon Ewing. Then each team scored a pair of baskets and from
there it was free throws: 4 of 6 for the Seahawks and 2 of 4 for
the Cowboys.
Beckham Wyrick
made 2-of-2 and John Goldsberry 1-of-2 to keep North Carolina-Wilmington
ahead in the final seconds.
Wyoming had
the last possession, but Steve Leven missed a 3-pointer as the clock
ran out.
The second half
was also determined by free throws.
Wyoming took
a 26-25 lead soon after the second half began on a layup by Brad
Jones.
It was the Cowboys'
last field goal for over 10 minutes, but the Cowboys stayed in the
game on 9 of 12 free throws and tied the score 36-36 on a slam dunk
by Justin Williams.
North Carolina-Wilmington
kept ahead on three baskets and five free throws. And again, Wyoming
didn't make a field goal -- but hit 9 of 9 free throws and finally
a 3-pointer by Jones to take a 48-47 lead.
Vladimir Kuljanin
scored for the Seahawks, but then Jones was back at the line for
Wyoming -- and made both to tie the score 49-49.
Jones and Williams
both led the Cowboys with 16 points each.
The Seahawks
led 23-20 after a hard-fought first half.
Wilmington got
ahead 9-8 on a free throw by Goldsberry and the Seahawks widened
that lead to as much as 19-12 after a tip-in by Dejan Grkovic and
a breakaway layup by Temi Soyebo.
The Cowboys
closed in before the half ended on 4-of-6 free throws and baskets
by Ewing and Daaron Brown.
