Greene,
Birley key second-half rally for Colorado State

Colo. -- Forward Brian Greene scored 28 points, 16 in the second
half and teammate Andy Birley added 18 points to lead Colorado State
to a 77-63 win over Cleveland State in the final game of the Dell™
BCA Invitational Tuesday night at Moby Arena.
Greene, a senior
from Thornton, Colo., made 11-of-20 field goals and added six free
throws plus five rebounds to earn most valuable player honors in
the three-game tournament.
Birley, a senior
guard from Battle Ground, Wash., was named to the all-tournament
team and scored 18 points, including making 4-of-6 three-point shots,
while freshman point guard Micheal Morris added 10 points and had
four assists.
Trailing 30-28
at intermission, the Rams opened the second half with a 10-2 run
to lead, 38-32. The Rams led by as many as 16 points in the game
before settling for the 14-point margin.
“It was
a tale of two halves. It was all Cleveland State the first half,”
said Rams’ coach Dale Layer. “We talked at halftime
about tempo.”
By the time
the second half reached the midway point, Colorado State led 51-40.
Greene, Birley,
and senior forward Quantone Smith had combined for all 23 of the
Rams’ second half points to that point. Smith finished with
eight points and matched his career high with six rebounds in the
game.
