BYU
and Tulane to Kick Off the BCA Classic
Two
of college footballs most explosive offenses to meet this
Saturday
Princeton,
N.J. (August 22, 2001) Brigham
Young and Tulane will kick-off the college football season at the
fifth annual BCA Classic on August 25th at 4:30 p.m. EST in BYUs
LaVell Edwards Stadium. ESPN2 will nationally televise the game.
The 2001 BCA
Classic will showcase two of college footballs most exciting
offenses. First-year BYU head coach Gary Crowton, who is credited
with rebuilding the football tradition at Louisiana Tech and resurrecting
the Chicago Bears passing offense, will bring his highly-touted
flair for high-flying offenses and hard-nosed defense when he makes
his return to Provo. Brandon Doman will be the signal caller for
the Cougars. He will take the field with an offense that returns
seven starters and a defense that returns six, including Rotary
Lombardi Award nominee Justin Ena.
Third-year
Tulane head coach Chris Scelfo, who coached his first game for the
Green Wave against BYU in the 1998 Liberty Bowl, brings an offense
that averaged 29.9 points a game in 2000. Last year the Green Wave
finished first in Conference USA and third nationally in passing
offense.
Quarterback
Patrick Ramsey is set to make his mark on the Green Wave record
books and will bring an experienced offense with him. The only time
BYU and Tulane have played was in the 1998 Liberty Bowl. In Scelfos
coaching debut, he was able to finish off a perfect 12-0 season
that began under the reigns of Tommy Bowden. Tulane defeated BYU,
41-27.
