Coppin State finishes with a win at Dell™ BCA Classic
Eagles earn first non-confernce victory since 2001-02 season

CINCINNATI - Reserve Chad Yates scored 18 points to lead Coppin State to a 76-62 win over San Diego on Monday in the Dell™ Black Coaches Association Classic.

Substitute Darryl Jones added 14 points and Jimmy Boykin had 11 for the Eagles (1-2), who earned their first win outside the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference since they beat Loyola-Maryland during the 2001-02 season. They lost all 10 non-league games last season and their first two this season.

San Diego's Brice Vounang scored 20 points. The Toreros, the defending West Coast Conference tournament champions, fell to 0-3 for the first time since moving to Division I in the 1979-80 season.

Yates, who had a total of 10 points in Coppin State's first two games, scored 14 on 6-of-8 shooting from the field in the first half. He had eight during an 18-7 run that left the Eagles ahead 33-20 with 3:20 left in the half. The Eagles twice led by 22 points in the second half.

The eight-team tournament is being played on Xavier's home court. The Musketeers are the top team in the three-day event.
