Match-Ups Announced for the 2001 BCA Classic

Princeton, NJ (August 22, 2001) – The Gazelle Group is pleased to announce the match-ups for the 2001 BCA Classic men’s college basketball tournament.

The BCA Classic will feature the University of California - Berkeley, Eastern Washington, Princeton and St. Joseph’s on November 15-16 at Cal’s Haas Pavilion. Television coverage and game times for the event will be announced in the near future. The match-ups for the Event are as follows:

Cal returns a young team after coming off last seasons’ NCAA Tournament appearance and is expected to be ranked in the top 20 of most pre-season polls. Cal’s recruiting class is highlighted by Top-25 freshman Jamal Sampson and Julian Sensley. Princeton, the defending Ivy League Champions, look to defend their Ivy League title and make a run at the NCAA Tournament. Princeton’s incoming recruiting class, rated in the Top 30 nationally, will also make an immediate impact.

St. Joe’s, ranked in the top 10 in most preseason polls, are lead by the dynamic backcourt of Marvin O’Connor and Jameer Nelson who give the Hawks their best chance at a Final Four appearance in years. Eastern Washington senior point guard and two-year starter Jason Lewis, the team leader in steals, assists and minutes played looks to help the Eagles advance to the NCAA Tournament, a goal which they fell one game short of in 1999-00.
